I know there are many sad, horrid and deplorable issues in our world but the senseless cruelty to animals always infuriates me.
I read in the April issue of Pennsylvania Equestrian of the despicable treatment of a 20 year old mare, Lily, shot at close range by approx. 130 paintballs. She was then abandoned in a stall at the New Holland Auction.
Thankfully the good people and specifically Kelly Smith of Omega Horse Rescue in Airville, PA found Lily in a stall at the auction barn and took action. Lily was taken to the New Bolton Center in Kennett Square, PA. There Lily received excellent veterinary care, feed and love. She is expected to make a full recovery though losing an eye and have endured much pain.
The Omega Horse Rescue is taking responsibility for Lily’s treatment.
The update is there has been a man charged. He has a record of animal abuse.
